Stephen F. Murray, 78 of Carmel IN, passed away October 27, 2016. He was born September 29, 1938 in Bedford IN, the son of the late H. Floyd Murray and Juanita (Felknor) Murray Smith. He married Irene (Hensley) Murray, Oolitic, IN, on December 21, 1957.
Steve proudly served in the Unites States Army and United States Army Reserves from 1961 – 1964 and 1964 – 1967, respectively, as an MP achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant E-5. He received his Bachelor of Science degree from Purdue University in Mechanical Engineering and began his professional career at Marmon Herrington designing drivetrains for trucks and busses before departing to the P.R. Mallory Co. on East Washington St, Indianapolis. Over his 30 year career at Mallory, he had the distinguished honor of working alongside so many he would proudly call friends. These same people helped him achieve several United States Patents, become Director of Engineering, Corporate Vice President, and ultimately President of world-wide operations at age 43 before the next chapter in his professional career. In 1990, Steve’s professional ambitions continued through the formation of the Mursix Corporation and the purchase of two small businesses, Twoson Tool and Twoson ESP, located in Delaware and Grant Counties. He preached credibility and integrity and used those core philosophies to lead Mursix Corp to an industry leader in the manufacturing of Automotive and Industrial components. With headquarters now in Yorktown, IN, Steve’s legacy includes the addition of over 300 new Delaware County jobs and a variety of community and philanthropy endeavors that have touched many lives. He respected so many but his love and respect for those that he worked with and believed in him was second to none. “My associates are truly a direct reflection of our family” he said, “and along with the Murray-Six, they are the number one reason for our success and symbolize everything about the Mursix name”.
Steve’s heart holds the friendships he has continued to carry, his time and friends while at Mallory, his passion for working with all the associates at Mursix, and most importantly, his time spent with his family.
Steve is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Irene, his four children, Mike (Dara) Murray, Susan Murray (Charlie) Carlock, Todd (Jody) Murray, and Brad (Jenn) Murray; his 12 grandchildren, Alec, Sydney, Whitney, Sophie, Spencer, Conner, Brooke, Brennen, Cassy, Braden, Cayden, Cache, and his aunt, Jewell Storms, Bedford, IN.
Steve and his family would like to thank the staff of Home Care Assistance, Alina at Tendercare Home Health, caregiver Patty Rice, the second floor staff of the St Vincent Heart Hospital, and Melissa, LuAnn, Kate, Gus and Teresa of Transitions Hospice.
