Steve grew up in Indianapolis, Indiana, and graduated from Lawrence Central High School in 1970. After his high school graduation, he attended Indiana University – Purdue University in Indianapolis.

Steve worked numerous jobs, both part time and full time, while attending both high school and college. After college he worked full time at Mayflower Transit Incorporated where he met his future wife Cynthia (Cindy) Ann Baron in 1982, and they married in 1985. In August 1995, his only son, pride and joy, Jacob Arthur Burton, was born. After leaving Mayflower Transit, Steve worked for SupportNet, a distributor of IBM mid-range systems, until retiring in March of 2006.

In retirement Steve enjoyed spending time at home with his family, including his best four-legged friend, Oatey. His one true hobby and passion was gardening.
