Stephen A. Rout, 70, of Carmel passed away at his home surrounded by his family after a long extended illness. He was born October 20, 1952, in Bedford, the son of the late James Edward and Helen (McKibben) Rout.
Stephen was a graduate of Arlington High School and later received his degrees from Ball State University and Ivy Tech. He enjoyed a successful 40+ year career in I.T. in the capacity of both Systems Programming and Technical Services Management. His career included working with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, Mayflower, Northrop Grumman, and various other consulting assignments. He was an avid Indianapolis Colts fan, enjoyed Sci-Fi movies, and 60s-70s Rock -n- Roll. He loved sarcastic humor and was able to quickly use his own. He also appreciated good political banter and loved to cook. His potato soup and chicken/dumplings were a family favorite. His love of life and his family was of utmost importance to him.
He is survived by his loving wife of 31 years, Angela (McWhirter) Kinnaird Rout; son, Richard Rout; previous wife, Cynthia Wilk Rout; three step-children, Brandon Kinnaird, Justin Kinnaird, Jennifer (Justin) Brandt; three grandsons, Forrest, Jameson, Elliott; and his twin brother, Geoffrey B. Rout. He was preceded in passing by a sister, Jayme Lynn Rout.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, August 16, 2023, at Flanner Buchanan – Carmel, 325 East Carmel Drive. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
