Steve, age 68, passed away peacefully at his home in Greenfield, Indiana on Thursday, July 25th, 2019 with his family at his side. He fought a short, tireless battle with cancer after being diagnosed with Glioblastoma Multiforme on June 6th, 2019.
Born June 20th, 1951 in Indianapolis, Indiana, Steve was a 1969 graduate of Thomas Carr Howe High School and then proudly served in the Army until 1972. Upon returning to Indianapolis, he began work in the local sheet metal industry and worked for the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local #20 until his retirement in 2014. Steve’s love of cars led him to work many jobs through the years including working for Snap-on and Matco Tools as a tool dealer. He would often be found in the garage, elbow length deep in grease, fixing a vehicle for any friend, neighbor or family member in need. More recently, he worked for Manheim Auto Auction with a group of people he loved being with every day.
Steve’s love of Alabama Football was evident, not only, by his apparel, cups, flags, etc. but by the “Roll Tide” you could hear him holler periodically. He also enjoyed watching any NHL game and drag racing. Every Wednesday he played cards with his buddies and also enjoyed his Saturday Bowling League. Known to many as “Big Dollar”, he could always fill a room with laughter after tossing his wallet from his pocket at the mention of someone splurging money on anything. He had a smile that was infectious and a heart of gold.
Steve is survived by his wife, Christina Walters, who was the love of his life and his five children that he loved dearly…Karisa “Kari” Rogers, Joshua (Kenna) Rogers, Andrew Walters, and the twins, Aaron (Caitlin) Walters, Benjamin (Julie) Walters. Ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter; Two siblings: Sister, Connie and Brother, Jim.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
