Stephan A. West died at the age of 74 of frontal lobe dementia on December 1 at his home in Fishers, Indiana.
The son of a career USAF officer, Steve attended high school in Northern California. He attended UC Davis where he received his bachelor’s degree in Political Science. He was president of the Sigma Nu fraternity where he met his future wife Linda. After graduating, he entered the Army serving 30 years in the Reserves, retiring as a Lt. Colonel.
He dedicated his entire career to government service. As Economic Development Director for San Diego in 1980s, he supervised a number of important projects that revitalized downtown San Diego, including Horton Plaza, the Gaslamp District, the US Grant Hotel and the Torrey Pines Golf Course.
In the 1990s, he became a City Manager working in several California cities: Lancaster, Hesperia, the City of California City and Half Moon Bay.
He was an avid science fiction reader, jogger, golfer and dedicated father. His survivors include his wife of 52 years, Linda West, his brother and 3 children, their spouses and five grandchildren. He will be interred at the Miramar National Cemetery in San Diego.
Visitation will be held January 5th 2:00pm – 2:30pm at Britton Falls Clubhouse Chateau, 15305 Trebbiano Dr. Fishers IN 46037. A memorial service will begin at 2:30pm.
