Shirley Mae Hale

May 19, 1929 — September 17, 2018

Indianapolis, Indiana

Shirley Mercer Hale-Grigdesby, 3rd daughter in her family born in 1929 during the depression.  She played the bass violin and sang in church and school choirs often as a soprano soloist.

She married Dale Hoekstra in 1949 and moved to Oregon and became a mother of one daughter.  She worked full-time for the Forest Service while helping with many chores on a farm.  She loved the mountains, traveling and sewing.

In 1975, she moved back to Indianapolis and worked at Naval Avionics where she met Floyd Hale and they married in 1979.  After surviving a health crisis, she volunteered and worked at Miller’s Merry Manor for 22 years and led bible studies and prayed with many residents.  Her husband, Floyd died and in 2003, she married Harold Grigdesby, her “Angel” and was very happy and thankful for her daughter, stepsons, stepdaughter, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She loved the Bible and couldn’t wait to meet Jesus face-to-face and see her loved ones again.  As her husband Harold said: “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” 2 Corinthians 5:8.

We look forward to seeing you again soon!!
