Shirley Gregory

Shirley Gregory, 86, a life-long resident of Indianapolis, passed away March 24th, 2021. She was born in Indianapolis September 22nd, 1934 to parents Fred and Eleanor (Toby) Freije. 

Shirley graduated from Arsenal Technical High School. She was a secretary in a medical office for a short time before becoming a full-time mother and homemaker. 

On September 12, 1959, Shirley married Dr. Robert Gregory. They shared 47 happy years together. 

Shirley and her husband were devout members of Holy Spirit Catholic Church. Her faith and her church community were always very important to her.

Shirley was always a caring, giving person.  She loved hosting gatherings, big and small, for family and friends. Her travels were always to visit family. She experienced tremendous joy spending time with her children and grandchildren, aunts, uncles and many cousins. She treasured these get-togethers.

She was sincerely loved and will be deeply missed. She had many lifelong friends.

Shirley is survived by her three loving children Jeannine, (EJ ) Menlo Park, CA, Brian, (Andrea) Greenwood, IN and Michael Gregory, CA; her grandchildren Brandon, Brianna, Noah, and Dylan.

Besides her parents, Shirley is preceded in death by her husband Dr. Robert Gregory and her daughter Diane Gregory. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, St. Jude Children’s Hospital or The American Diabetes Association. 

Shirley’s visitation will be Monday, April 5 at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Spirit Catholic Church (7243 E 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46219). Her Mass will be the same day, at 10:30 a.m. Due to continuing pandemic concerns, masks will be required. She will be laid to rest at Washington Park East Cemetery.
