Speedway, Indiana

     Shirley Ann (Congleton) Smith of Speedway, Indiana passed away on February 17, 2025, at her residence. Shirley was born on August 30, 1933, in Terre Haute, Indiana to Cary Clifford and Henrietta Jeannette (Preston) Congleton. 

     Shirley retired from Essilor of America as a Branch Manager after 20 + years of service in 1999. She was a faithful member of St. Christopher Catholic Community in Speedway as well as the American Legion Colonel Billie J. Holmes Memorial Post 331 in Brownsburg Indiana. One of her greatest joys was being a grandma to Eric and Granny Smith to Rylee. 

     Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Billy G. Smith in 2011, her son Alan J. Smith, her brother, Cary C. Congleton Smith Jr., and her sisters, Kathleen Therese (Congleton) Martin and Patricia Jean (Congleton) Doan. 

     A funeral/committal service will be held on Saturday February 22, 2025, at West Ridge Park Cemetery Chapel at 11 am. Shirley is survived by her son, Michael Joseph (Penny) Smith, grandson, Eric Alan Smith and her great granddaughter, Rylee Ann Smith. Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics (link below) or mail: 6200 Technology Center Drive Suite 105 Indianapolis, IN 46278 in Shirley’s name. A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday February 23, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 pm at the American Legion Colonel Billie J. Holmes Memorial Post #331 in Brownsburg, Indiana.
