Sherrie Lynn (Dorsett) Crain, 74 Born in Indianapolis, November 13, 1946 and left the us April 14, 2021 from her residence in Kokomo, Indiana. Sherrie was born to Harry and Doris Dorsett as the second of four children and grew up and lived the majority of her life in Wayne Township on the westside of Indianapolis, IN. She was active in her youth with the Ben Davis Marching Giants, playing the trumpet and graduated from Ben Davis in 1965. Shortly after graduation, she married Edward Moore, Jr and they raised two sons, Edward III and David. In 1987 she remarried Mark Crain. Sherrie was active in the Wayne Township Fire Department Auxiliary from 1965 until 1974 when she became an active member with WTFD as a Firefighter and EMT at Mickleyville Station 5. She was a lifetime member of member of Wayne Township Fire Department. During her time with WTFD she served in many roles including: EMS Captain, President and Training Chief. She mentored and educated many that would follow her.  She was blessed to be able to watch her sons and her grandchildren carry on the family business of serving others as Firefighters, EMTs and Paramedics. She continued in her life of public service, working for the State of Indiana EMS Commission and then IN DHS EMS Division.  She was tasked to ensure that ambulances were safe and properly equipped statewide. She retired in 2009 after 29 years of service as the Director of Operations. Sherrie lived a full life and enjoyed spending time with family and friends, “making memories” that will last long beyond her years with us. She returned to Ben Davis Marching Band to watch both sons and then two of her grandsons perform on the field and off with the bands. She also spent time with her 2 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren that live in North Carolina. After retirement, she would snowbird with Mark in Florida, where she also had many friends. Sherrie is preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Doris Dorsett and two siblings Donna Morris and Gary Dorsett. She leaves behind her husband Mark Crain, one sibling, Penny Dorsett, her sons and their wives: Ted (Pamela) Moore and David (Beckie)Moore. She also leaves behind 4 grandsons and 2 great-grandchildren. Per Sherrie’s wishes she will be cremated with no services with her ashes placed in a bench at Floral Park, where folks can stop by, rest a piece and have a conversation with her or look off to see her siblings and parents nearby. There will be a Celebration of Life held for Sherrie on Saturday, May 1, 2021 from 2-8pm at Lions Club Park in the clubhouse, 3201 Tansel Road Clermont, IN. In lieu of flowers please donate to your favorite charity in Sherrie’s name.
