Sherman Lee King, 93 of Indianapolis, passed away on December 2, 2018. He was born on April 21, 1925 to the late Raymond and Grace (Schwab) King.
Sherman graduated from New Augusta High School (Pike Twp.) and served in the U.S. Army from 1943 to 1945. He worked at Eli Lilly and Co. for 45 years. A long-time member and past president of the Pike Twp. Lions Club, Sherman was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award, the highest form of recognition in the Lions Organization. He was a 20 year member of the Pike Township Volunteer Fire Department, a 90 year member of Salem Lutheran Church, and a member of the Zionsville Masonic Lodge.
Sherman was preceded in death by his parents; Raymond and Grace (Schwab) King; his first wife, Dorothy (Brown) King; son, Gregory King; and sister, Madge (King) Hightshue.
He is survived by his wife, Margie (Lowe) King; daughter, Candace Harcourt; granddaughter, Lindsay Powell; great-granddaughter, Grace Bay; step-children, Frances McElwain (Russell), Billy Johnson, and Jimmie Johnson (Jody). Sherman was also blessed with many step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Friday, December 7, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville, 105 W. Pine St., from 11AM-1PM, with the service immediately following. Burial will take place at Bethel Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to the Pike Township Lions Club.
