Shelby Jean Charles

Shelby Jean (Ledgerwood) Charles, 81, went to be with the lord on July 12, 2018. She was born on January 31, 1937 and grew up in Washington, Indiana with her seven siblings: Doris, Sue, Darlene, June, Roger, Bill and Carl. She graduated from Washington High School and worked as a nanny for a local family before meeting the love of her life, Oliver “Bud” Charles. They married on Easter Sunday, 1957. From then on, it didn’t matter the date, Easter was always their wedding anniversary. They were blessed with four children and finally settled in Zionsville, Indiana after traveling the country while Bud served in the military for his career.

Shelby enjoyed living her life to the fullest every day. She was loved by all, but most of all by her family and beloved dog Princess. She had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. Shelby was quite the jokester and could always make you laugh despite the situation. She enjoyed traveling whether it be for leisure or to visit family near and far.

Shelby was preceded in death by her parents, Maxine & Elmo Ledgerwood; husband, Bud; children, Pam & Lonnie and sisters, Doris & Sue. She is survived by her daughter Rebecca (Al) Hall; son Jeffery Charles; her siblings; Carl (Jeannie) Ledgerwood, Bill (Pat) Ledgerwood, Roger (Kris) Ledgerwood, June (Gary) Mattingly and Darlene (Bob) Hughes and her grandchildren; Jim, Alan, Joshua, Toni, Tammy, Natasha, Camille, James and Rebecca along with seven great grandchildren and her shoulder buddy “Princess” her Yorkie.

The viewing will be held on Monday July 16, 2018 at Flanner Buchanan-Zionsville 105 West Pine Street Zionsville, IN from 4 to 8 pm with the OES service taking place at 7:30.  Funeral service will be held on Tuesday July 17, 2018 at the funeral center at 1 pm.
