Sharon L. Smith, age 79, of Brownsburg, passed away while holding the hands of her beloved children Janet Lynn Wilson (Smith) of Carmel and Scott Alan Smith of Waxhaw, NC on the 6th of September 2022. Sharon was the cherished daughter of the late William E. and Lucille (Hossbach) White and the sister of the predeceased William E. White, Jr. of Joliet, IL. Sharon was a graduate of Joliet Township High School and married Gary M. Smith of Joliet, IL in April of 1961. After moving to Indianapolis, the Smith family became active members of St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Speedway where they formed many lifelong friendships. In 1972, the family built a house and moved to Brownsburg where Sharon continued to live until recent events.
Sharon was a tremendous athlete. She was involved in multiple bowling leagues throughout her lifetime and her name was frequently found in the newspaper on any given week for women’s high score at Raceway Lanes. Sharon also played softball in both coed and women’s leagues often holding the shortstop position. When not actively participating in sports, she and Gary coached, volunteered, and cheered for their children’s and grandchildren’s extracurricular activities. Sharon was an avid reader, enjoyed cross stitching, and baking Christmas cookies to deliver to friends and neighbors. When she wasn’t indoors you could frequently find her outside working in her yard. Sharon is survived by her children’s spouses Rob Wilson and Michele Hummer-Smith, her adored grandchildren Robbie (Ashley) Wilson of Boone, NC, Ryan Wilson of Carmel, Drake Smith and Kendall Smith of Waxhaw, NC, and one great-granddaughter Lucy Ann Wilson of Boone, NC. Sharon also leaves behind her sister-in-law Linda Thurm White of Arcadia, FL, nieces Dawn (White) and Larry Hull, Denise (White) Ebner, and Diane (White) Frankee of Tampa, FL along with her children. A Celebration of Life will be held on October 10, 2022 at St. Andrew’s Lutheran Church in Speedway. Visitation will take place from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m. with a service to follow officiated by Tim Massingale.
