January 12, 1938 — December 9, 2015

Sharon Jahr Flaningham, 77, passed away on December 9, 2015 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born on January 12, 1938 in Indianapolis, IN. Her parents were the late Alma H. Jahr and Aaron T. Jahr. She was a 1956 graduate of Shortridge High School in Indianapolis and received her Bachelor and Master degrees in education from Butler University. She than taught at IPS for seven years.
Sharon married Edward G. Flaningham in 1967 and in 1968 their twin sons, Tyler Clay Flaningham and Glen Lee Flaningham were born. Motherhood was the perfect role for her and she loved it. The family lived in Indianapolis for several years then moved to Zionsville, IN in 1975. Sharon was a homemaker until their sons were twelve. She then taught preschool at St. Luke's Methodist Church in Indianapolis for 23 years and loved the children and their families.
Sharon's activities included President of Delta Delta Delta Sorority Alumni Chapter, President of Zionsville Newcomers Club, PEO Sisterhood, Zionsville Woman's Club, Psi Iota Xi Sorority, Friends of Hussey-Mayfield Memorial Library, Alpha Delta Kappa Teachers Honorary, Sunnyside Guild, St. Vincent Hospital Guild, and a member of the Zionsville United Methodist Church.
Sharon was a devoted wife and mother and cherished both these roles. She loved her pet dachshunds throughout life and enjoyed their constant companionship. She also loved her dear, supportive friends. Sharon collected Raggedy Ann dolls, tea cups and saucers, hair receivers, oil lamps, and Hummel figurines. She enjoyed traveling, gardening, music, movies, reading, Riviera Swim Club, and lunching with friends. She especially loved to laugh and have fun, and her soft nature was a wonderful example to others on compassion and kind-heartedness.
Her husband Edward Flaningham preceded her in death in 1997. Survivors include Tyler Flaningham M.D. of Indianapolis; Glen Flaningham M.D. of Fishers(wife Susie); and grandchildren Julia and Grant Flaningham.
