Sharon Corrine “Sherry” Witter, 73, passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2022 in Indianapolis, Indiana. Sherry was born in Hutchinson, Minnesota on July 27, 1948, daughter of Homer and Anita (Hunt) Rickard.
Sherry grew up in Worth, Illinois and graduated from Carl Sandburg High School. Despite her small stature, she was a spunky woman and served proudly in the Marine Corps. Following that she worked as an executive secretary at Ace Hardware. She married the love of her life Richard Witter on March 6, 1976 in La Grange, Illinois. They had a son in 1978, Christopher, who lived for just a few precious days.
Rich and Sherry moved to Indianapolis, Indiana when Rich was transferred for his job at the Post Office. They planted their roots and Sherry continued to follow her true calling: motherhood. She gave birth to three more sons and their home was always busy. She was a longtime member of St. John Lutheran Church.
Whether it was through a broad smile or a raised eyebrow, it wasn’t hard to tell how Sherry was feeling. She was creative and enjoyed sewing and craft projects. She loved the dogs that were always a part of the Witter household and little things that were antique or detailed.
The relationships Sherry had as a wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend were her most treasured possessions. She was a caring, thoughtful and truly unique woman who will be remembered fondly and greatly missed.
Survived by her loving husband, Richard; sons Nicholas (Jennifer), Jonathan (Trena) and Timothy; grandchildren Lindzi, Ryan, Caleb, Natalie, Desiree and Brooklyn; mother-in-law Verna Witter, sisters-in-law Bette Rickard, Judy Rickard and Becky (Ted) Vratny; brothers-in-law Ron Wolters and Tom (Laurie) Witter; numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by her parents; son Christopher; brothers Jerry Rickard and Roger Rickard; sister Kathy Wolters; father-in-law Albert Joe Witter.
