Indianapolis, IN

Sharon Anita Jordan (Williams) 75, passed away Sunday, April 25th 2021 at Allisonville Meadows. She was born December 13, 1945. The youngest daughter of her now 100-year-old mother Harriet Elizabeth Williams and her father the late Frank Bell.

She graduated from Jeffersonville Indiana high school with honors, and as a member of the National Honor Society. She graduated from St Anthony Nursing School in 1966. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from Indiana Wesleyan University in 2007 and her Master of Science from Ball State University in 2010.

In 1967 she married her husband Albert L. Jordan and followed him as they moved from place to place while in the military. While they were in North Carolina at Ft Bragg, she worked at Womack Medical Center in the ICU unit. When they moved to Texas at Ft. Hood Sharon worked as head nurse at the Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center. After the military, she worked at Terre Haute Regional Hospital while putting her husband through Indiana State University. After graduation they moved to Indianapolis where she worked at Winona Memorial Hospital as nurse, educator, and trainer. When Winona closed, she transferred her skills to Community North Hospital as educator in the Psychology unit until she retired. Sharon was a tenacious worker who was passionate about nursing.

Sharon was a tremendously strong woman who was devoted to her family and cried at every heartwarming event. She really enjoyed the annual Family Reunions especially when quoting her deceased grandfather, James Ulysses Dyson, whom she referenced in many conversations. She never met a stranger and had many friends.

Through all the moving in the military they were an active part of the church community. When they went to Terre Haute, Indiana State University, she was deeply involved with Second Baptist Church, pastored by Reverend Noel Hord. She active in bible study and the choir. When they left Terre Haute and moved to Indianapolis, they found a church home at Second Christian Church now Light of the World pastored by Bishop T. Garrot Benjamin Jr., again she became involved with the mission of the church. She became a deaconess serving the congregation by giving communion and visiting the sick and shut in. After 20 years and declining health they moved their membership closer to their home and went to East 91st St. Christian Church. There she functioned as an Elders wife, even with failing health and limited mobility.

She is survived by her devoted husband and soul-mate Albert Lathan Jordan VI of fifty-four years; her 100-year-old mother Harriet Elizabeth Williams; one aunt Clare Etta Smith; two daughter Ayrica Elizabeth and Allyson Marie; two grandchildren Nykia Marie and Christopher Lathan; many cousin, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. Sharon was preceded in death by her sister Barbara Ann and brother-in-law John Gilbert Scott.

Al loved his baby, and she will be missed terribly missed. When they married, he told her, “I did not start living until I married you, up until then I was just existing.”
