It is with great sadness that the family of Sharon Ann (Schives) Nigro announce her passing on Wednesday, March 3rd, 2021 at the age of 84 while at her home in Carmel, IN. She was born in Detroit, MI, the only child of Clarence and Marion (McCarthy) Schives. Sharon graduated from the University of Detroit with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry. She pursued a Master of Library Science graduate degree at the University of Detroit until she exchanged her MLS for a Mrs. and married Daniel Neil Nigro at Scholastica Church in Detroit on April 18, 1964.
Sharon was employed by General Motors at the GM Technical Center in Warren, MI. After moving to Carmel, she enjoyed many years working at the Carmel Clay Public Library. Sharon was a member of Sigma Delta Sorority at UD, American Association of University Women, Ladies of Harley, Harley Owners Group, and St. Elizabeth Ann Seton in Carmel.
Sharon enjoyed doing the jumble puzzle every morning while drinking coffee, perusing craft festivals every fall on the lookout for new and creative ways to decorate her home and loved to research her family’s genealogy. She also loved visits from her grand-dogs Tank and Lucy and was looking forward to their next visit with the warmer weather. Her Catholic faith was the foundation for her positive and selfless outlook on life. Faced with a challenge or struggle she always said, “When God closes a door, he opens a window.” Family was the most important thing to her, and she loved her husband, children, and grandchildren unconditionally and they will deeply miss her.
Sharon loved to travel. Between the two of them, Daniel and Sharon traveled all 49 United States and were planning on their 50th state, Alaska, for their 50th anniversary in 2014. Sharon’s favorite travel destination in later years was Cape May, NJ where she and Daniel enjoyed quiet moments together overlooking the eastern shore.
Surviving are her husband and best friend of almost 57 years, Daniel; her three wonderful children, of whom she was immensely proud: Julie and her husband Darryl Wood of Fishers, IN, Dan and his wife Randi Allen of San Antonio, TX, and Kathy of Fishers, IN. Also surviving her are her two beautiful granddaughters Alyssa and Emily Nigro.
Sharon was predeceased by her parents and two infant sons. Funeral arrangements are being handled by Flanner Buchanan – Carmel and a private service will be held at Our Lady of Peace Cemetery per Sharon’s request. The family wishes to thank all of those who have reached out during this difficult time and all who were a part of her life. Memorial contributions, in lieu of flowers, may be made to St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Carmel, IN, or to one of her two favorite charities that she supported: The Little Sisters of the Poor and the St Joseph School for the Blind.
