Shar Elise Windle, 67, of Carmel, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, December 13, 2016 after a courageous battle with cancer. Born September 7, 1949, she was preceded in death by her son, Peter Windle; father, John A. Jones; and mother, Margaret S. Jones. She is survived by children Wendi Biddle, Arin Mason, Sean Windle and Alexandra Windle; two sons-in-law, John Biddle and Steve Mason; daughter-in-law Virdiana Windle; future son-in-law James Golding; eight grandchildren and three siblings.
Shar graduated from Westfield High School in 1967, and subsequently attended Indiana State University. After marrying, settling down and raising a family, she decided to make a career change and attended Indiana University School of Nursing. She exceled in leadership as well as academics, becoming class president. Shortly after graduating from nursing school in 1993, Shar started working as a registered nurse at the Richard L. Roudebush VA Medical Center in Indianapolis, where she remained employed until retiring in 2014.
In 1983, Shar joined the Catholic Church, where she solidified her steadfast and enduring faith. In addition to her children, her faith was the most important relationship in her life. She made lasting friendships, engaged in church activities and was loved by many in her faith community. Shar truly valued life and would find beauty and meaning in the everyday. A devoted animal lover, she adopted several pets from animal shelters throughout her lifetime. She loved cooking up recipes in her kitchen and hosting meals for her friends and family. She also enjoyed traveling, reading, music and visiting quaint cafes, where she could sip coffee and strike up conversations with almost anyone – making connections with others always came easy to her.
Shar cherished the people and animals in her life and loved nothing more than making them feel welcomed and cared for. She was a fiercely devoted mother and grandmother, and had no greater joy than being around her family. She will truly be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Services will be Wednesday, December 21 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church in Carmel. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM, followed by a funeral mass at 10:30. The burial will take place at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens in Fishers, and afterward we invite everyone back to the church for a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Hamilton County Humane Society, which was one of Shar’s most treasured charities.
