Schuyler D, Hales, 96 of Carmel, passed away Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Schuyler was born December 17, 1926 in Maxwell, Iowa to the late Harvey and Dorothy Hales. He graduated from high school early so he could enlist in the US Navy. After serving in WWII, he was discharged and enlisted in the Iowa Naval Reserve. After graduation from Drake University, he was called back to Naval service and served in the Korean War.
Schuyler was a bank examiner for the FDIC over 30 years, retiring May 1, 1992. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church, the Broad Ripple Setoma Club, Millersville Masonic Lodge, Woodland Country Club and the Carmel American Legion.
Private family services will be held at St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
Schuyler was the widower of Joan, who passed away August 1, 2008 after 57 years of marriage. He is survived by his children, Mary J. Desotell, Paul Hales, Ann Horstman and John Hales; 8 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his siter, Shilo Townsend.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher’s Episcopal Church.
