Sarah Marilyn Jenkins

May 17, 1932 — February 26, 2022

Indianapolis, IN

Jenkins, Sarah Marilyn, 89, Indianapolis, went home to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, February 26, 2022, surrounded by family.

Marilyn was the second of seven children, born to Franck C. and Ruby (Williams) May 17, 1932 in Covington, Louisiana.  She graduated from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, Louisiana in 1954.  Marilyn met and married Denman December 5, 1954.  She did not know a stranger and called everyone ‘Sugar.’

Marilyn raised her family as a military wife over 23 years. She was nominated ‘Military Wife of the Year’ in 1971, an honor well dissevered.  She volunteered everywhere the family was stationed.   She had a gift of baking.  Fondly referred to as ‘The Cake Lady’ she would bake for any occasion. She served in the church, in the Prayer Tower, and RAFEW.  Her salads were famous for having everything in them but the kitchen sink.

She loved being a nurse and retired from Indianapolis VA Hospital in 1995.  She continued to have a drive to care for others and would take care of her ‘seniors’ most of who were her age.

Her greatest joy in life was her 4 grandchildren and 1 great granddaughter: Cameron, Sara, Candice, Eric and Isabelle (Izzy).  She found a new level of joy, becoming a grandparent with the birth of her first grandchild, Cameron.  Cameron called her ‘Gran.’   A new name many would refer to her as from that point on.

She is survived by daughters Debbie Lemay and Diane (Eric) Anusewicz; son, Denny.  Grandchildren Cameron and Sara Bopp; Candice & Eric Anusewicz and great granddaughter Isabelle Bopp; Brother Robert Artus and Sister Janice (Artus) Morandi.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 3,  2022 11:00 am to 1:00 pm at the Caring Place, 2901 N. Post Road, Indianapolis, IN 46219 with services immediately following.

Marilyn will be laid to rest next to Denman who her preceded in death, at Washington Park East Cemetery.  Family and friends are invited to leave online condolences for the family at flannerbuchanan.com
