Sara Ruth Shapiro Davis, 61, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away unexpectedly on October 5, 2023. Sarah was born on January 15, 1962, to her devoted parents, Jack and Marilyn Shapiro, in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Sara was a 1980 graduate of North Central High School. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Hanover College. She continued her education at IUPUI to become a registered nurse, serving at the IU Methodist Cardiac Critical Care Unit for more than twenty years. Sara most recently worked as a Health Center Nurse at North Central High School in Washington Township.
Sara was married to Kelley Davis for 31 years. Together, they celebrated the joy of being parents to Alexander and Rachel.
Sara is preceded in death by her loving parents, mother, father, step-father James East, step-brother Guy M. East, and father-in-law Kermit Davis. Her two siblings survive Sara and three step-siblings, along with a company of cousins, nieces, and nephews: her mother-in-law, Jean Davis, and brother-in-law Kyle Davis. Sara’s middle name honors her Aunt Ruth, the sister of Jack. Her uncle was Martin Shapiro, the youngest of her father’s siblings.
Sara and Kelley enjoyed several shared interests, including the love of their dogs: Max, Bernie, and Baby Gracie. Sara’s weekly Bootcamp exercise was one of the most important times she scheduled for herself. If you visited the front yard of the home she shared with Kelley, you would see her garden and her beloved hummingbirds. Sara enjoyed close friends with whom she shared mutual joy and support. Sara expressed her faith in the quality of the relationships she nurtured. Many say, “Sara is the best person I know.” She fully conveyed her love for people as a North Central High School nurse. She respected staff, teachers, and principal Dr. Daniel Mendez. Sara was light and life to many students. She thought the world of them and knew that a listening ear and a word of encouragement were no less important than her medical skills. It is rare for people to find work that so beautifully matches what they hold dearly, as Sara did.
