Sara Elizabeth Staley Armstrong, 46, passed away on March 2, 2023, in Zionsville, Indiana, surrounded by her family and friends. She was born on August 6, 1976, 10 minutes before her twin sister Suzanne, to Pollard and Marilyn Staley. Sara loved her family, sports and Purdue University.
Sara was a devoted and patient mother to her sons Jacob and Jackson. They were the light of her life. She and her husband Brian created fun experiences for them, taking them to Zionsville and Purdue sporting events, raising pet ducks, playing basketball with them in the driveway and teaching them to honor Veterans with a salute during the local Veterans’ Day parade.
Sara was a proud and loud Boilermaker fan, quick to yell at a game official for a bad call, often turning heads in the stands when she did so. Her passion for basketball started as a young girl memorizing a Purdue basketball player’s name and number and continued when she and her twin sister Suzanne were basketball players at Turkey Run High School.
Sara earned a BA in Communication from Purdue University. In 2021 she began working at Purdue as an Alumni Engagement Officer. Her tireless energy and positive attitude allowed her to connect with alumni and developed tried and true relationships.
Sara is survived by her loving husband of 11 years, Brian Armstrong, sons Jacob (9) and Jackson (5), parents Marilyn and Pollard Staley, twin sister Suzanne, brother Bill (Sandy) Staley, niece Alyson and nephew Zach.
Sara will be remembered for her energy, smile, and determination. She was a magnet for friends. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those who knew her, but her spirit lives on, particularly at every Purdue event when we hear, “Hail Purdue”.
In lieu of flowers, please donate in Sara’s name to the Sara Staley Armstrong Memorial Fund to support a graduating senior of Parke Heritage High School who attends Purdue University at https://www.parkeccf.org/general-5.
