Sanford E. Bowers

Sanford Eugene Bowers, 89, of Greenwood, passed away on Saturday, November 4, 2017. He was born on March 4, 1928 in Covington, IN to the late Richard Pete and Myra Sarah (Drollinger) Bowers. Sanford was a 1946 graduate of Arsenal Tech High School and served his country honorably in the Korean War. He was discharged from the U.S. Army in 1953 with the rank of Sergeant. Sanford retired from Indiana Bell in 1983 with 37 years of service. He was a member of the Englewood Masonic Lodge 715 and the Scottish Rite. Sanford is survived by his sister, Inez Shuck; and will be greatly missed by his several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 64 years, Shirley (Johnston) Bowers; and beloved daughter, Penny Jo Bowers. Sanford was also preceded in death by his parents; and siblings, Richard Bowers, Carolyn Lemon, Joseph Bowers and Herman Bowers. Private services will be held with Flanner Buchanan – Washington Park East with entombment immediately following in Washington Park East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
