Sandra Joyce (Lucas) Dorste, 78, of Westfield, Indiana passed away peacefully on March 28th, 2020. Sandra (Sandy) was born April 3rd, 1941 in Indianapolis Indiana. Sandra was preceded in death by her parents Charles Gordon Lucas and Lela Eleanor Lucas.
Affectionately known as Meme, Sandra is survived by her son Peter Smith, daughter Juliet Smith, sister Judith Kelp-Puckett and brother Thomas Gordon Lucas, beloved grandchildren Lucas and Harper Smith and Miles Smith, and nieces, nephews, cousins and lifelong friends.
Sandra graduated from Arsenal Technical High School and was the recipient of a Master Degree in Speech and Theater from Indiana University, where she was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Sandra was a professional singer, musician, and songwriter. She also wrote commercial music and was especially proud of coining the Indianapolis Pacers theme song and slogan “I’m so Pacer Proud”. Sandra was a writer of fiction and a published poet, and a longtime member of the National League of American Pen Women, Indianapolis Branch since 1982. She served on the Board of Indianapolis Dance Company and was a supporter of the arts. Sandra also was an entrepreneur and launched several small businesses.
Sandra was a strong, funny, loving and spiritual human being and valued kindness above all else. Her loss will be felt deeply by many.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Little Hearts, Inc., a national organization dedicated to providing support, education and hope to families affected by congenital heart defects.
