Indianapolis, Indiana. January 31, 2021
Samuel (Jack) Bartley, gently passed on in peace at age 89 years. He was the last surviving of 9 children including brothers Bob, Irvin, Ivan, and Bill and sisters Rebecca, Wanda, Ann, and Betty.
Jack had a gift for making friendships which lasted his whole life. He was a proud graduate of George Washington HS, where he lettered four years in golf.
Jack enlisted in the Navy and took great pride in his years of service. While in the Navy, Jack married his “little sweetheart,” Norma. They raised two children, Brian and Beth.
Second only to his love of family – was golf. He won many tournaments, trophies, and prizes throughout his life, with an impressive record of nine holes-in-one.
Jack worked at many endeavors throughout his life and his family describes him as a “Jack” of all trades. He eventually retired from the Indianapolis Public Schools’ Department of Transportation.
In later years, Jack and Norma split their time between Indy and Florida, where Jack developed more lifetime friendships both on and off the golf course. He loved to dance with his beautiful wife and is renowned for his story-telling, life-lessons and “Jackisms”.
Jack is survived by his adoring wife, two children and their spouses, plus four grandchildren.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions be made to Old Bethel United Methodist Church, Indianapolis. Or please consider a donation to your local food pantry or other charity of choice.
