Samuel Francis Johnson Jr., age 93, of Indianapolis, IN, went to join his Lord and Savior on January 19, 2020. He was born on June 14, 1926 to the Late Samuel Francis Johnson Sr. and the Late Bessie (Lewis) Johnson in Crossville, TN.
Samuel moved to Indianapolis in 1949 where he later met and married his wife, Margaret (Henson) Johnson, in 1950.
He fearlessly served in the United States Army for WWII. He was stationed in Hawaii as a Lieutenant when the war came to an end. After returning to Indianapolis, Samuel began work at General Motors Truck and Bus where he was a dedicated employee for 40 years.
Outside of work, Samuel was a well-rounded husband, father, brother and friend. He coached Little League in Eagledale. He was also a dedicated member of Southwest Church of the Nazarene for 70 years, where he served on the board and was instrumental on the building committee for the construction of their new church. Samuel’s passing leaves an empty space in the hearts of his family, friends, church family, and all those lucky enough to have met him.
Samuel was preceded in death by his parents, Samuel Francis Johnson Sr. and Bessie (Lewis) Johnson; his late wife, Margaret (Henson) Johnson; his brothers, Floyd, Sanford, Willard, Chester, Carl, Glenn and Paul; and his sister, Winona.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Gladys Margaret (Gaylord) Johnson; his children, Tim, Paul, Mary, Mark, and Dan; 14 Grandchildren; 14 Great-Grandchildren; 1 Great-Great-Grandchild; as well a host of extended family and friends.
