Sam Sak Chheng, 66 years of age, passed away on December 20th 2024 after a brief battle with lymphoma.
Sam was born on January 3rd 1958 to Kun Bun Lorm and York Heang Chheng in Battambang, Cambodia. He had 6 siblings, Ponpin, Ponchay, Nikom, Chumrern, Samneang, and Vanny Chheng.
He, his mother and sister Vanny Chheng escaped the country during the Khmer Rouge regime to refugee camps in Thailand, where they heard the gospel and put their faith in Jesus Christ. They came to the United States in 1981. He later sponsored his other surviving sister Samneang and her family to join them in the United States.
In 1987 Sam met his wife Karen and they were married on April 10th 1993. They went on to have four children together: Grace Katherine, Christopher York, Joseph Kessler and Sori-yah May. He also has three beloved grandchildren: Georgia Kay, Sebastian Taylor, and Ophelia Jo.
Sam loved spending time with his family, tending his garden, repairing and caring for his home, photography, camping, hiking and cooking. He took pride in his profession as a dental technician, in which he exemplified his character of pursuing excellence. Sam also cherished his friendships and the fellowship of his church.
Sam was predeceased by his father York Heang Chheng, mother Kun Bun Lorm, and siblings Ponpin, Ponchay, Nikom, and Chumrern Chheng.
He is survived by his wife Karen Kay Chheng, his children Grace Barbo (Derek), Christopher (Stephanie), Joseph (Janae) and Sori-yah Chheng. His grandchildren, Sebastian Barbo, Georgia and Ophelia Chheng. As well as his sisters Samneang and Vanny Chheng.
Sam was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. His family and loved ones are devastated to have lost him so suddenly. He was a caretaker with a true servants heart. He will be greatly missed. We cling to the promise of being reunited with him in heaven, where he is currently experiencing perfect peace with his Savior Jesus Christ.
A memorial service will be held on December 30th. Visitation beginning at 11am and service at 1pm at Second Reformed Presbyterian Church, 4800 N Michigan Rd. Indianapolis, IN.
Graveside service to follow at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 N Holt Rd. Indianapolis, IN 46222.
