Salvatore Joseph Barbera of Zionsville, Indiana passed away February 2, 2018 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the age of 66.
Sal is survived by his mother, Olimpia Barbera; his daughter Samantha Barbera, Los Angeles; ex-wife and best friend Vicki Barbera, Zionsville; and his brother Carlos Barbera, Orlando. He is preceded in death by his father, Anthony Barbera and sister, Carol Ann Trexler.
Sal was born December 28, 1951 in Montevideo, Uruguay to Anthony Frank Barbera and Olimpia Farina Barbera. He graduated from Collegio International de Carabobo (High school) in Valencia Venezuela and went to Purdue University to study mathematics. Sal then obtained his MBA from the University of Dallas. It was at University of Dallas where he met Vicki, his best and life long-friend and the mother of his daughter. Sal embarked on a long career in the finance, banking and stock trading industry; a career that was so passionate to him that he filled the walls of his living room with stock charts he drew and charted daily.
Sal was also passionate about music, having been raised in a house always full of music, there wasn’t an instrument he did not know. Playing the guitar is what fueled his soul; there was rarely a time the guitar was not within arm’s reach. He enjoyed playing with wonderful bands over the years and was always eager to show his young nephew Brody how to use an instrument. It was obvious when Sal was at a place of pure contentment when he got to play with his brother Carlos, especially if it was a Beatles song, the harmony came from more than just their guitars. The most important part of music for Sal was being able to share the passion with his daughter Samantha. It was in Samantha’s ability to learn, play and become passionate about music, especially playing the guitar, that Sal felt most proud. There was never anything more important than his daughter and this passion they both shared. Sal was very dedicated to his family, especially his mother who exposed him to music. Sal would frequently play at Hoosier Village, sometimes while his mother played the piano and Vicki would play her flute. This was the rhythm of Sal’s family.
