Ruth Evelyn (Loesch) Demott

May 30, 1919 — May 25, 2019

Indianapolis, IN

Ruth Evelyn (Loesch) DeMott, age 99, passed away on May 25, 2019, at Hoosier Village in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ruth was born on May 30, 1919, in Philadelphia, PA, the only daughter, and middle child of Paul Otto and Florence Mae (Class) Loesch.

Ruth married Richard Harold DeMott shortly after WWII, on August 10, 1946. They met at the church the two were attending and enjoyed 65 years of marriage before Dick’s death in 2011.

Ruth graduated from high school in Allentown, PA and then from Moody Bible Institute, Chicago, Illinois in 1942, where she excelled in music, gracing the airwaves of the city each noontime with, among others, George Beverly Shae, featured soloist during the Billy Graham crusades.

As a youth, Ruth was an avid basketball player and received an athletic letter in high school. She invested her adult life in her family, having raised six children. She was passionate about her church ministry, leading youth groups, choirs, as well as starting and leading Sunday School classes.

Ruth’s love for music led her to direct choirs, offer musical solos, join vocalist groups, and offer piano lessons. In her later years, her passion for music translated into a whistle that could be heard throughout the hallways of her residency at Hoosier Village. Her testimony was her song; her song was her testimony.

In her later years, Ruth enjoyed the peace and contentment of her surroundings, steadfast in her wit and witness, generous in her compliments to caregivers.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Florence Loesch, a brother, Willard Loesch (Flossie), and a brother, Warren Loesch (Marian). She is survived by six children: Phyllis DeMott (Lynn) of Springfield, Illinois; Rev. Dr. Nancy DeMott of Fishers, IN; Sherrill (Rick) Hultgen of Darien, IL; John Richard ‘Rick’ (Paula) DeMott of Bridgeport, OH, with one step granddaughter and two step great-grandchildren; Rev. Dr. David (Sheryl) DeMott of Grand Junction, CO, with three grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Janice (Mike) Hector of Tinley Park, IL, with three grandchildren.

A funeral service for Ruth DeMott will be held at Hoosier Village, Indianapolis on May 28, 2019, at 11:00, with visitation an hour previous. Burial will be at Weeks Cemetery in Bridgeport, Ohio.
