Russel Vere Heath, 95, of Indianapolis, IN went home to be with Jesus on January 25, 2022. He was born the youngest of seven children on January 10, 1927, to the late William and Hazel Coyer Heath, in East Chicago, Indiana.

He was married for 66 years to the love of his life, Margaret Caroline Ayers Heath, who predeceased him. Together they had two sons, Tod (Nancy) of Westerville, OH and Jay of Speedway. They have 3 grandchildren: Isaac (Julie) of Westerville, OH, Adam (Jess) of Columbus, OH and Emily (Cameron) of Westerville, OH, and 10 wonderful great grandchildren, all of whom survive them.

He is predeceased by 3 of his 4 sisters, and his 2 brothers. He is survived by his sister Veneta (Toots) Skirm and many nieces and nephews.

Russel was a U. S. Navy veteran of World War II. After graduating from Purdue University, he had a long and successful career as a metallurgical engineer and materials manager for such companies as Goodyear Aerospace, and then retiring after many years from Detroit Diesel Allison Gas Turbine Division.

Once his career was established, he took the time to mentor young business people and budding entrepreneurs through the Junior Achievement program.  In retirement he was an active volunteer for ministries providing support for people in Indianapolis.

He and Margaret moved to Robin Run Village where he could be found calling Bingo several times a week, collecting newspapers from fellow residents in a sort of reverse paper route, and walking many, many, miles in the halls and climbing stairs to prepare for the annual Bop to the Top stair climbing race held in downtown Indianapolis each January. He used his daily walks to greet and make friends with fellow residents and staff alike. His cheery greeting and kind demeanor will be missed by many.

Visitation will be held on February 12, 2022, from 10:00 am to 11:30 am with services to follow at John Knox Presbyterian Church, 3000 North High School Road, Indianapolis, IN 46224. Inurnment to follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
