Rufus C. Searcy, 90, of Indianapolis passed away on January 13, 2024. He was born on December 6, 1933 in Beech Grove, Indiana to his parents Floyd L. Searcy Sr. and Carolyn (Sarvor) Searcy. Rufus dutifully served his country in the United States Army, and was a true patriot. He was a Route Driver for Hostess Cakes for 25 dedicated years. Rufus was a founding member of True Word Baptist Church—he served there for 51 years. He served as a Senior Deacon and an Adult Sunday School Teacher, he was a beloved member and enjoyed his church family. Rufus loved his family most of all. He will be missed terribly by all the lives he has touched.
Rufus is survived by his children, Phillip (Sheila) Searcy, Terry (Debbie) Searcy, and Natosha (Dave) Crnkovich; 7 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.
Rufus is preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Carolyn; his loving wife, Edith Searcy; and his brother, Floyd L. Searcy Jr.
A visitation will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Washington Park East, 10722 E. Washington St. on Thursday, January 18, 2023, from 11AM-1PM with a funeral beginning at 1PM. Rufus will be laid to rest in Washington Park East Cemetery.
