Indianapolis

Rudolf A. Haeussermann, aka "Rudy, a cherished member of the Indianapolis community, left this world on February 25, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on July 16, 1936, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to Alfred and Anna Haeussermann, who moved here from Germany to escape the ruthless Hitler regime.

Rudy, following his high school graduation, began employment in November,1957, with the Indiana Department of Public Welfare. His mailroom job, which he truly cherished, allowed him to meet many co-workers as the department expanded and merged with other state agencies. In his 49th year, Rudy received an invitation to personally meet Governor Mitch Daniels and Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman at the Indiana Statehouse. They graciously spent time with him and allowed pictures of this special event acknowledging his dedication. Upon retiring in December 2007, Governor Daniels recognized Rudy’s 50 years of public service by presenting him the “Indiana Distinguished Hoosier” award. Friends and co-workers gathered to recognize Rudy’s long-time dedication and to celebrate a job well done. Throughout his retirement, he fondly reminisced recalling the people he encountered at the job he loved.

Outside of his professional pursuits, Rudy was a man of varied interests. He had a love for reading, particularly National Geographic magazine, which immersed him in countless worlds and ideas, enriching his life experience. Additionally, he found joy in watching television. Some of his favorites were Cops, Survivor, and Lawrence Welk, which entertained him greatly.

Rudy will be remembered by his friends who survived him not only for his work ethic, but for the refreshing innocence that characterized his personality.

Rudy's legacy is further enriched by the memories of his beloved parents, Alfred and Anna Haeussermann, who preceded him in death. They raised Rudy as a devout Catholic, and he was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church at the time of his passing.

Though Rudy has departed from this life, he will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His journey continues in the hearts of those who loved him, leaving a lasting impact on his community and beyond.
