Ruby T. Warrum

Ruby Shull Warrum, 95, passed away on February 26, 2019, in Carmel, Indiana. Born to Leonard and Katherine Long, she is survived by daughters Patricia Cupp and Pamela Baugh, as well as son-in-law Greg Baugh, grandchildren Andrew Cupp, Gavin Baugh, and Lindsay Baugh, and great-grandchildren Helena, Liam, and Lucy. In addition to her parents, Ruby was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Shull, eight sisters, two brothers, son-in-law Michael Cupp, and her late-life husband Granville Warrum.
Ruby was born on September 21, 1923, in Danville, Kentucky and at age 4 moved to Indianapolis, IN, where she spent most of her life. She attended Shortridge High School in Indianapolis. On her 18th birthday, in 1941, she married Joseph Shull. She was the third Long sister to marry a Shull brother.
Their first daughter, Patricia, was born on November 13, 1942, and soon after Joe was called to serve in World War II until fall 1945. While he served in the European Theater in the 381st Fighter Reconnaissance Group, Ruby raised Pat with the help of sister Rene and their extended family. During the war, Ruby worked at Real Silk Company inspecting parachutes working ten-hour shifts six days a week. Later during this time she worked at Eli Lilly, which would turn out to be an important factor in her life.
After the war, Ruby and Joe settled into a home in Indianapolis and she worked as a stay-at-home mom for twelve years. Their second daughter, Pamela Jo, was born on August 8, 1952. The Longs and Shulls formed a large and close-knit family and enjoyed years of togetherness, love, and support. Ruby and Joe began building their home on Buena Vista Drive on the west side of Indianapolis in 1955 and moved in a year later. She attended church at Glendale Church of God and Church at the Crossing for several decades.
Determined to give her daughters the opportunity of a college education, Ruby began working at Eli Lilly again in 1957. During a temporary office posting she successfully helped implement an early computer system and earned a promotion to the Employee Benefits Department. Her career at Eli Lilly spanned 30 years.
Both of Ruby’s daughters graduated from college and went on to successful careers. Ruby and Joe moved to the home they build on Redbud Court in Plainfield, IN in the 1970’s. They lived there twelve years until retirement, enjoying life with family and grandchildren. They traveled and boated and remained close to their large family. Christmas was Ruby’s favorite holiday, when she always entertained her family with wonderful meals and generous gifts. Ruby was very fond of birds and wildlife, and the wooded lot was perfect for this.
After retiring, Ruby and Joe moved to a home in Palmetto, Florida. There they made great new friends and continued keeping busy and traveling together while remaining close to their Indianapolis family and friends.
After a blessed marriage that lasted 52 years, her beloved husband Joe passed away on June 8, 1993. Joe and Ruby will rest side by side at Washington Park North Cemetery in Indianapolis.
Ruby continued living in Florida and, after several years, formed a bond with Granville Warrum through mutual interests. On April 24, 2000 , she married Gran and they enjoyed their loving life in Florida for eight years until Gran’s passing. Both of their families formed lasting friendships that are still cherished.
In 2009, Ruby moved back to Indianapolis to be close to her family, which at that point included her three great-grandchildren. Her family treasured all their time with her, continuing the gatherings Ruby facilitated for them so many years prior. Ruby was a loving, intelligent, and gentle person.
