Ruby Jo Nelson, the oldest of three children born to Erastus B. and Mary E. Nelson, was born on June 7, 1937 in Prospect, Tennessee. Ruby came to Indianapolis as a baby and lived her whole life in Indiana. Ruby attended School 26 and then high school at Crispus Attucks, where she graduated in 1955. A devout Christian, Ruby cared a great deal for people and spent most of her adult life working in a caretaker capacity. She was employed for many years at Central State Hospital, Methodist Hospital, and Hooverwood Nursing Home respectively where she cared for patients in various capacities as though they were her own family. She retired from L. S. Ayres in 2004 after 10 years there. Ruby was a very kind and loving person as well as devoted, mother, aunt and friend. She never met a stranger. If there was any way to help someone, she would surely try. Ruby is preceded in death by her parents, Erastus and Mary Nelson, her daughter, Deborah A. Nelson, and her brother Robert L. Nelson. Ruby departed this life and entered the eternal gates of heaven on November 9th, 2018. Ruby leaves to cherish her memory: a brother Tyrone Nelson, uncles AD Trotter, Joe L. Trotter, nieces Adonis Hardin (Nathan), Robin Nelson-Rice (Derica), sister in law Sharon Nelson and a host of extended relatives and good friends.
