Ruben DeWayne Taylor Jr.

Ruben DeWayne Taylor Jr., age 36, passed away on January 26, 2025, at Community North Hospital. He was born on July 3, 1988, in Indianapolis, Indiana, to parents, Bishop Ruben DeWayne and Vera C. Robertson. 

He attended Washington Township Schools and graduated from Ben Davis High School, where he not only excelled academically but also left his mark as a talented football player, contributing to the team’s journey to the All-State Championship game. 

Throughout his life, Ruben was not only the owner and operator of Ruben's Mattresses and Furniture but also a beacon of hope and opportunity for those around him. His business was a reflection of his generous spirit; he thrived on helping others and creating pathways for their success. Anyone who encounters Ruben remembers him as having a heart of gold, and his beautiful smile that could light up any room.

His many accomplishments were notable, yet it was the love for his family that truly defined him. Ruben loved being a father and adored his three children, who were his entire world. As a father, he was steadfast and loving, always putting their needs above his own. His love for them was profound, and they were the bright lights of his life.

Ruben is survived by his mother, Vera C. Robertson; father, Bishop Ruben DeWayne Taylor; siblings, Michael C. Cleffman, Sandra Meder, Cynthia M. Robertson, Heidi M. Williams, Jerry Roberton, Myra Price, Quenten DeWayne Taylor, Jada Marie Taylor, Ashanti Ruby Taylor; 20 nieces and nephews; 17 great nieces and nephews; and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. 

Ruben also leaves behind his three children, Ruben D. Taylor III, Reina P. Taylor and Andreas J. Taylor.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, Andreas Robertson and Terrance DeWayne Taylor Sr.

In remembrance of Ruben, a viewing will be held on Friday, February 7, 2025, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Flanner Buchanan - Broad Ripple, located at 1305 Broad Ripple Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46220. This will be followed by a funeral service from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM to honor his life, with an additional viewing / repass to follow from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM.
