Roy Edgar Calhoun

June 7, 1943 — February 6, 2018

Indianapolis, Indiana

Roy Calhoun,

74, of Indianapolis, passed away Tuesday, February 6, 2018. Roy was born June 7, 1943 in Prestonsburg, KY to Troy and Mollie Calhoun.

Roy could be described as “one of a kind.” He had a great sense of humor that lightened up the room. He was an amazing father to his two children, grandfather, brother, and friend. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, and bluegrass fan. He enjoyed camping at Lake Monroe, Lake Lemon, and Raccoon Lake. He proudly served his country during Vietnam in the Navy. He loved to read and watch his westerns while eating butterscotch candies and/or Reese’s Cups. Roy was known as “Brownie” by his siblings. Although no one knows where the name came from, it stuck with him all of his life. He loved to play guitar up until he couldn’t any longer. He will be sorely missed by many.

Roy was preceded in death by his parents; and his brother, James Calhoun; and sisters, Minnie Smith and Emma Calhoun. He is survived by his children, Brian (Brandy) McDonald-Calhoun and Melissa Holmes (Sean); siblings, Don Calhoun, Kenneth Calhoun, Phyllis Calhoun, Jay Calhoun, Patty Burnett, Bonnie Avila, Jean Burton, Henrietta Graham; grandchildren, Brooke Calhoun, Blaise Calhoun, Briley Calhoun, Braelynn Calhoun, Chelsea Calhoun and Maxwell Scanlan; and great grandchild, William Harris III.
