Roy Lane Byrd

Roy Lane Byrd “Mane” was born to Roy and Beatrice Byrd on June 25, 1954, in Minter City, Mississippi. Roy was the second youngest of eight siblings.

In his early childhood, Roy moved to Indianapolis, Indiana with his parents and siblings, where he resided until his passing. He received his primary education at IPS Riverside School #44 and continued his secondary education excelling and setting records in basketball, track, and football at IPS Northwest High School graduating in 1973.

Roy was employed at ReaderLink, one of the largest book distributors in the US for over ten years. While at ReaderLink, Roy organized and monitored the workload and released work to the various picking areas. He also had extensive maintenance supervisory experience working for St. Vincent Hospital and Gene B. Glick (Mayfield Green Apartments). 

Roy professed a hope in Christ and was baptized at Mount Olive Missionary Baptist Church where he was a member.

Roy enjoyed making others laugh and spending quality time with family and friends. He loved listening to timeless R&B music, playing all sports, and attending family sporting events. His infectious smile and contagious sense of humor will be missed by family and friends.

Roy was united in Holy Matrimony on August 19, 1989, to Karen Byrd.

The Lord called Roy Lane Byrd “Mane” home on Tuesday, October 22, 2024, at the young age of 70 years, 3 months, and 28 days. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Roy and Beatrice Byrd (Diggs), and sister Margie L. Tyler. He is survived by four sisters; Margie R. Gray, Everlena Dean, Alberta Byrd, and Betty J. Palmer, and two brothers; Edward Byrd (Pauline), and Tommy L. Byrd. 

Roy leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Karen A. Byrd (Brown), his daughter Tajuana L. Byrd, two granddaughters: Tiara L. Edwards, and Raelyn L. Young, and two stepsons Donald C. Butler and Thomas M. Davis, and a host of special nieces, nephews, and family and friends.
