Ross E. Springer, 77, Carmel, passed away at St. Vincent’s Carmel on July 16, 2018 with his family by his side. He was born August 7, 1940, in Fort Wayne, the son of the late Roy Victor and Lucille H. (Gerke) Springer. He married Rosemarie P. Stauffer on September 1, 1962.
Ross was a graduate of Elmhurst High School in Fort Wayne, where he was a band member, varsity letterman in basketball and a member of the honor society. He received a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from Indiana University, Bloomington in 1962, where he was a member of the Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity. In 1966, he earned his J.D. from Indiana University Robert H. McKinney School of Law. Ross had a successful and rewarding 33-year career with the U.S. Treasury as District Council, where he received the Sagamore of the Wabash award from Governor Frank O’Bannon in 1999.
He enjoyed playing golf, traveling to state parks and the homes of all the presidents across the United States, I.U. basketball, volunteering time at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, gardening and walking the sandy beaches of south Florida. He also loved harmonizing to college fight songs with his daughters.
Ross is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Rosemarie Springer; three daughters, Carolyn (Dave) Holder of Indianapolis, Catharine Rademacher of Bloomington, and Rebecca (Jeff) Hoog of Fishers; three grandchildren, Lillian Rademacher, Michael and Adam Hoog; and a brother, Neil A. (Janet) Springer of Naperville.
The Springer family would like to thank the caregivers at Brookdale of Carmel for their wonderful care for Ross. He loved them like family.
Memorial services will be at 12 noon Saturday, August 18, 2018, at Cornerstone Lutheran Church, 4850 East Main Street, Carmel. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until time of service.
