Rose Marie Delaney of Indianapolis passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 12, 2021 at the age of 94. She embraced life, even a bout with COVID 19 couldn’t slow her down. Born in Indianapolis on October 5th, 1926 to the late Carl & Frances (Matracia) Glesing. She grew up in the Meridian Kessler area and graduated from Shortridge High School. She was the loving wife of Jack Delaney for 53 years before he passed away in 2000.
Rose worked many years with her Father, Carl, who at the time owned the city’s leading stone and concrete masonry company. It was during the war, and veteran WW II pilot, Lieutenant Jack Delaney, was on leave from combat in the Pacific and stationed briefly at Stout Field in Indianapolis. While out to dinner in downtown Indianapolis with his co-pilot, he met a lovely Hoosier girl, Rose Delaney. The seeds were planted that night for a long and happy life together.
She loved to travel with Jack and visited several countries. She had a zest for life and a quick smile for everyone she met. Her great joy was family and friends and she loved sending them cards and notes for most any occasion. She also enjoyed the Indianapolis Symphony each season and attended for many years. She was a 40-year member of the Lockerbie Questors Club, an antique and historical preservation organization where she met many of her best friends. She also truly enjoyed Oasis classes for years, which is enrichment and education classes for seniors. Her heart smiled most for her family. Her sons Steve (Joyce) and James (deceased); daughter Pat Edging (Steve); five grandchildren five great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church, 4217 N. Central Avenue at 11:30 am on Tuesday, April 20, where family and friends are invited to gather from 10:00 am until the time of the service.
