Rose Ellen Vander Veen

April 4, 1927 — October 29, 2017

Rose Ellen Vander Veen, 90, died Sunday, October 29. She was born April 4, 1927 in Zionsville, Indiana to the late Irma (Hess) and Francis Sluder. A mother, wife and homemaker, she also worked 21 years at Creston Junior High School in Warren Township in the cafeteria. Her children remember her loving care and attention as she always put her family first. She was a great cook and her family will always miss her peach pies and yeast rolls. Rose was a member of Zion United Church of Christ (Troy and Post Roads) for over 55 years. She served in the Women’s Guild and made the dressing for the large Thanksgiving dinner for years. Both as a volunteer and resident, she served in the Altenheim Auxiliary. In 2007 she was recognized as the Volunteer of the Year. Rose also was a Tuesday Toiler where she made bibs and stuffed animals for the children at Riley Hospital. Rose was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Ralph Vander Veen, and her brother Ronald Sluder. She is survived by her son Richard Vander Veen (Patricia) of Newark, Texas; daughter Sharon Vincent (Stephen) of Noblesville, Indiana; daughter Lou Ann Gossett of Carmel, Indiana; grandson Matthew Vincent (Jennifer) of Philadelphia, PA; granddaughters Jessica and Kelley Gossett of Carmel, Indiana; and two great grandsons Ewan and Huxley Vincent. She will be buried at Memorial Park Cemetery next to her husband with only immediate family in attendance.
