Roosevelt "Rudy" Hampton

December 14, 1944 — September 11, 2024

Indianapolis

Roosevelt Ford Hampton was born December 14, 1944, to Lucille Ford Toney and Leroy Hampton in Huntsville Alabama.

His parents later moved the family to Chattanooga, Tennessee where he graduated from Howard High School. Roosevelt returned to that same school where he then worked for eight years as the Facilities Manager. Best known to his Tennessee family as: “Rody”, he was loved by all!

Roosevelt then moved to Indianapolis in 1976 for better job opportunities. He was employed by the Indianapolis Public Schools System and retired after 30 years of service. He was loved by the students and respected by his peers. He gave back to his community by holding cook outs and helped any child in need. Indianapolis loved Roosevelt and to his co-workers and friends he was nicknamed: “Rudy”.

Roosevelt had a passion for fishing where he would go to Eagle Creek to catch bass and catfish. If he wasn’t fishing there, he could be found throwing lines out in his own backyard pond to pass the time. He loved to travel to visit family and friends, but his favorite destination was Florida. He would spend summers and holidays grilling with his family and would never pass up an opportunity for a cook-off. He was known for his amazing rib tips and BBQ chicken. He was the original “Grill Master”!

Roosevelt Hampton departed this Earth on September 11th at the wise age of seventy-nine. He was preceded in death by his loving parents Leroy Hampton and Lucille Ford, daughter-in-law Gail Misner-Hampton and a long list of family in Alabama.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories: his wife of 39 years Antionette Hampton, sisters Marlyn “Ann” Hodges and Ruby (June) Horton, daughters Monica Terese (Larry) and Carolyn Renee Broner, sons Vincent Hampton, Darren Hampton, Rodney Hampton, Carlos Hampton, Frederick Hampton and Antoine Broner, 36 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Adrienne Gray and Paula Draper; brother-in-law Edward Blakemore; and a host of extend family and friends.

2 Timothy 4:7-8 KJV

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.
