Ronald James Copeland

It is with saddened hearts that we must announce the passing of a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Ron passed away February 22, 2023.  There will be no funeral services held, but a celebration of life will be held at Plainfield Friends Church, 105 S. East St., Plainfield, IN, and then a grave site celebration at the Paoli Cemetery, where his ashes will be placed.

Ron was born July 22, 1941, and raised in Paoli, IN. After graduation, Ron joined the United States Air Force in 1962. He was stationed in Alaska for most of his tour during the Vietnam conflict. He married Sharon Rose Copeland in 1962, and when they returned to Indiana, they started their family, producing two daughters that are the joy of his life. Ron and Sharon were married for over twenty years and remained friends forever.

After Ron left the Air Force, he worked at an auto parts company and attended Indiana University. An opportunity came up that they needed for better money and that is when he started his long career at YRC, formally known as Yellow Freight System. He retired after twenty-eight years as the Line Haul Manager. He married his present wife, Nancy, on September 5, 1987. He also lived in Mooresville, Indianapolis, Plainfield, and Carmel, all in Indiana.

His parents, James and Mary (Cunningham) Copeland preceded him in death, as well as his baby sister, Karen, and his brother, Phillip. He is survived by his wife Nancy Jean Copeland; two daughters, Kay Nicodemus (Paul), and Nancy Lynn Benjamin and her children Kayla Owens (Josh), Alexis Hall, and Izzy Benjamin; great-grandchildren, Gunner and Barrett; stepdaughter, Marcie Douglass (Dave), grandchildren by his union with his wife Nancy, Elizabeth (David), Eric (Robin); great-grandchildren Warren, Teddy, and Margot; and many nieces and nephews.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 4, at 11 am, at Plainfield Friends Meeting, 105 S East St, Plainfield, IN 46168. There will be a second Celebration of Life on Saturday, March 11, at 11 am, at Paoli Friends Meeting, 203 N Gospel St, Paoli, IN 47564.
