Before he had taken his first leave he wrote to Lois asking for a date. He wrote,” Just have one date with me and I’ll prove I’m old enough for you. They had their first date, and as they say the rest is history (67 years later).
Ron served aboard the USS. Saint Paul stationed out of Bremerton, Washington. He worked in the main gun turret loading shells. Ron was honorably discharged from service after serving 4 years. The USS Saint Paul entered the history books as firing the last shot in the Korean War.
Ronald married Lois A. (Robison) in 1952, they had 3 children; Deborah E., Dawn J. (deceased), and Jeffrey A. Fox. Ronald and Lois have two grandchildren; Jeffrey A. II, and Thomas E. Fox and three great grandchildren; Owen, Jaxon, and Emmet Fox. Niece, Jane Ruble.
After being discharged from the Navy Ronald went to Barber College where he got his Journeymen’s license, and cut hair at many different places before working for Paul Thomas. Paul’s Barbershop was located on West Washington Street in Indianapolis, IN. When Paul retired Ron rented the building and it became Fox’s Den Barbershop. Later Ron drove school buses, and also worked for Ben Davis school systems. In the 1970’s to 2000 Ron was more well known for playing Santa at; Indiana State Museum, Indianapolis Zoo, and the Speedway Shopping Center. He also had many families he visited on Christmas Eve. Ron loved to make Christmas special for Children. He would sing Christmas songs, and tell stories to the children of the real meaning of Christmas the Birth of Jesus.
Ronald was a member of the Nazarene Church for many years and served in many different capacities at the church. Later in life he attended the Bible missionary Church.
In later years Ronald’s health went down and needed home healthcare. He was taken care of by three wonderful care givers; Becky Brown, Sherry Simpson, and Shavonne Dowell.
