Bud Hindsley passed away on August 12, 2017 at American Village in Indianapolis where he has lived for the past 7 years. Bud was born Rolland Keith Hindsley on August 19, 1925 in Union City, Indiana, the fifth child of Rolla and Mildred Hindsley. He was called by his middle name, Keith, for many years growing up but his childhood nickname of Buddy was shortened to Bud and it stuck. Bud graduated from Jackson Ohio High School in 1943 and right away enlisted into the Marine Corps as it was during WWII. He served in the South Pacific, on Okinawa, then in Nagasaki, Japan. Having been a trumpet player in the school band, he had the distinction of playing taps for the highest ranking officer to have been killed during WWII, Gen. Simon Buckner. Bud completed his time of service in 1946 at the rank of Corporal. He returned home to Union City to marry his high school sweetheart Carol Ann Vernon. He worked several jobs over the years in factory or in service, the Union City Body Company, Corning Glass in Greenville, OH, then Treaty Company and J&J Supply in Muncie, IN. In 1962, he moved to Muncie with Carol and their three children Kathy, Jody, and Keith and lived at their Penn St house for the next 48 years. He volunteered at Ball Hospital after retirement, active in church as Head of the Trustees and singing (along with Carol) in the church choir. In 2010, Bud and Carol sold their house and moved in to American Village in Indianapolis, enjoying another 6 years together before Carol passed April 2016. Bud is preceded in death by his wife Carol; his parents; sisters, Lovelle Mikesel, Mary Ellen Jessup, Frances Peacock, Helen Snyder, and Phyllis Bynum; and brother, Gene Hindsley. He is survived by his three children, Kathy Jeanne Gamlem, Tucson, AZ, Karen Jo Tetrault, Indianapolis, and Keith Vernon Hindsley, Fullerton, CA; grandchildren, Tamara, Todd, Travis and Tyler; great grandchildren, Jacob, Joseph, Jennah, Lucas, Logan, Landon, and Evy. The family will hold a private graveside service in Union City.
