Roland “Rollie” C. Schroeder

Mr. Roland C. “Rollie” Schroeder, from Speedway, Indiana, passed away on December 12, 2023. He was born on March 14, 1932, to the late Edwin and Edna (Lawrence) Schroeder. Rollie was married to his wife of 72 years, Ruthanne “Rudy” (Deuser) Schroeder.

Rollie was drafted to the United States Army in 1951 to serve on the front lines of the Korean War. Following his service in the Korean War, Rollie was an Indiana State Trooper for 11 years.

With a passion for golf, he looked to fulfill a career in the game starting as a sales Rep for Wilson and Walter Hagen golf equipment. Shortly after, Rollie joined as the Assistant Golf Professional at what is now known as Brickyard Crossing Golf Course in 1967. Rollie’s tenure at the Brickyard Crossing Golf Course continued after serving as the Head Golf Professional before officially retiring in 2006, after 39 years. Rollie was a member of the PGA of America for 51 years.

Rollie was a member of many organizations of which include, Life Member of the PGA, Life Member of the Indianapolis 500 Oldtimers, Life Member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (Post 2839), Member of American Legion (Post 500), member of the Indiana Freemasons (Lynhurst Lodge No 723) and member of the Country Club of Indianapolis.

Rollie is survived by his wife Rudy Schroeder; children Steven C., Jeffrey J. (Rhonda) Schroeder, Cynthia A. (Rob Sevening) Barnhart; grandchildren Brooke (Don) Brown, Zachary (Morgan) Beard, Lauren (Scott) Noth, Nicholas (Katie) Beard, Cullen Schroeder, Megan (TJ Thompson) Barnhart, Andrew, Alexander (Maggie Campbell) and Adam Sevening, and Justin Barnhart; and three great grandchildren Collins and Remington Brown (Brooke and Don) and Emma Noth (Lauren and Scott). 

Services for Rollie will be held at Flanner Buchanan-Speedway, 2950 N High School Rd, Speedway. Visitation will be on Friday, December 15, from 4:00 pm-8:00pm with a Masonic service at 7:00 PM. and Saturday, December 16, 10:00 am to11:00 am with service beginning at 11:00 a.m. Entombment will follow at Floral Park Cemetery, 425 N Holt Rd, Indianapolis.  In lieu flowers, donations can be made to the Speedway High School Athletic Fund 5357 West 25^th Street. Speedway, IN 46224 and/or Indiana Golf Foundation (http://indianagolf.org/donate) in Rollie Schroeder’s name.
