Roger Lee Wood

Roger L. Wood. 78, transitioned from this earthly realm to join his heavenly father on Wednesday, June 10, 2020. He was the husband of Winifred Wood. Together they shared 27 loving years of marriage. To this union they shared one son, Roger L. Wood Jr.

Roger was born on February, 6, 1942, in Indianapolis, Indiana. Roger was born to the late Charles E. Wood Sr. and the late Frances E. Lockett Wood.

During his earlier years, Roger was an outstanding athlete who excelled in the sport of basketball at Emmerich Manual High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. He broke several school records, was selected as one of the top 100 players in the state of Indiana his senior year, and became part of Manual’s Historical Hall of Fame. He had a love for all sports and loved to share his knowledge with his children and grandchildren.

After graduating from high school, Roger served in the United States Army. Upon completing his assignment, he found employment at General Motors where he worked for 44 years. During his time at GM he advanced to the management level and retired as Team Leader.

Roger gave his life to Christ and became a member of St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church in 2018, where he served until he was called home.

He is survived by his lovely wife, Winifred Wood, Children- Michelle Wood, Summer Logan (Joe), Jaime Clancy (Narlin), Justin McGhee, Ransom Barnes III, Roger L. Wood Jr., Brothers- Ronald E. Wood (Keiko), Charles E. Wood, Michael J. Wood (Lydia), Phillip P. Wood, Gary Wood (Jennifer), 14 Grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles E. Wood Sr. and Frances E. Lockett Wood.
