Roberta Stranahan "Strannie" Presnal died peacefully on December 24, surrounded by her children, following a multi-year struggle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in New Castle, Indiana in 1935, the daughter of the late Robert W. and Florence Stranahan. She moved as a child to Indianapolis where she attended Public School #69 and graduated from Shortridge High School. Strannie attended Butler University and Indiana University, studying journalism. She married Edwin M. Presnal in 1958.
All of her life Strannie enjoyed sports of all kinds and participated in many bowling and golf leagues. She especially loved to golf, and played whenever the weather was good well into her 70s. She was always closely involved in the sports lives of her children, coaching, keeping score, running the clock or concession stand or just cheering from the sidelines. She rarely missed a game!
Strannie began her work career later in life, first in retail, then as a small business owner. She was employed for a number of years by the Indiana Department of Corrections and retired in 2007 as a Hamilton County Corrections Officer.
Strannie was a devoted grandmother who loved attending the sporting events and concerts of her multi-talented grandchildren. She was an expert board gamer and puzzle solver.
Strannie is survived by her sister, Mary Sue Ham, her children Bryan (Toby) Presnal, Kathryn Presnal, Mike (Maribeth) Presnal and Karen (Brad) Yount, and nine grandchildren. The family would especially like to recognize and thank Strannie's dear friend and caregiver, Pam Petruzzi, who provided kindness, care, and companionship for Strannie during her final 3 years.
