Robert E. Wilmoth

Robert E. Wilmoth, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed peacefully in his sleep on October 14, 2024.

Born on October 22, 1939, in Greeley, CO, Robert was the son of Thomas C. Wilmoth, M.D., and Lessie C. Wilmoth. In 1946, the family relocated to Phoenix, Arizona, where Robert excelled in golf, earning the title of Southwest Region Junior Golf Champion. His talents earned him a full scholarship to Arizona State University, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Business in 1962. He continued his education at St. Mary’s University in San Antonio, obtaining his Juris Doctor in 1966.

A dedicated attorney, Robert became a member of the Arizona Bar Association in 1966 and was admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court in 1971. His career included notable positions such as Staff Attorney with Maricopa County Legal Aid and Partner at Wilmoth & Goldman. He served as Special Assistant to General Counsel at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from 1970-1973, earning an FDA honor award in 1973. Most of his professional life was spent as Associate General Counsel at the Greyhound Dial Corporation, where he worked from 1973 until his retirement in 1994. Robert was also active in various professional organizations, contributing his expertise to several committees and boards, and even testifying at United States Senate hearings in 1983.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Robert was a devoted family man. He was second to none in the roles of father and grandfather. He is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Barbara Lee; daughter and son-in-law Michelle Milazzo and Dale Kleeman of Carmel, IN; daughter and son-in-law Kristen and Todd Howard of Westfield, IN; and grandchildren Tanner Milazzo, Kate Milazzo, Ben Howard, and Mackenzie Howard. His family was the light of his life, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

Robert retired at 55 and embraced his golden years with a passion. As a member of the Arizona Country Club, Balboa Yacht Club and the Bridgewater Golf Club, he enjoyed golf, travel, boating, and quality time with family and friends.

Known for his generosity, warm spirit and love of life, he made friends wherever he went and touched the lives of many.

A celebration of Robert’s life will be held on Thursday, October 24th at the Bridgewater Club, 3535 East 161st St. Carmel, IN, from 4pm to 6pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in his memory. Robert E. Wilmoth will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
