Robert William (Bill) Childers Jr., 71, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2017 at his home with his family by his side. He was born on April 4, 1946 in Loogootee IN to the late Robert W Childers Sr., and Jean (Burton) Childers.
He was employed as an electrician for 15 years at Western Electric and retired as Superintendant of the electrical department at Navistar after 28 years of service.
Bill held an associates degree in Electronics Technology from Ivy Tech. He went on to earn an Associates Degree in Applied Science and a Bachelors Degree in Business Management from DeVry University.
Bill was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Air Force obtaining the rank of Sergeant.
He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Sugar Creek Lodge for 38 years and belonged to the Scottish Rite. He was a member of the American Legion, New Palestine post
Bill served on the retirees advisory board for Harvester Financial Credit Union and enjoyed golfing and fishing and travelling. He was a kind and generous person who willingly shared whatever he had with others.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 32 years, Brenda (Gammons) Childers, his children, Jennifer (Jason) Monroe, Jason (Chris) Childers, Cheryl Lamb, and Brian Scott Davis, 9 grandchildren, sister Patricia Childers, brother Donald (Susan) Childers, 3 sisters in law and 4 brothers in law, numerous nieces and nephews and a loving circle of friends and neighbors.
Memorial contributions in Bill's honor may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5635 W. 96th Street, Suite 100, Indianapolis, IN 46278 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.
A funeral service will take place 12:00pm on Wednesday, Sept. 13, 2017 with visitation on Tuesday, Sept. 12 from 4:00-8:00pm at Flanner and Buchanan- Washington Park East.
