Robert Reed Webber

October 6, 1935 — February 4, 2025

Carmel, Indiana

Robert Reed Webber of Carmel, Indiana, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on February 4, 2025. He was in his 90th year.

Bob Webber was born October 6, 1935 in Mount Vernon, NY, to Robert Irvine Webber and Hilda Maurine Bell Webber. He graduated from Bronxville (NY) High School in 1953 and attended Duke University and Brigham Young University where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Geology. In 1957, Bob married Barbara Kay Brockbank, whom he met when both worked at the Grand Canyon. After graduation and a stint at Shell Oil Company in Chicago, Illinois, Bob worked in New York City as a manufacturer’s representative. He considered himself an “old-fashioned peddler,” not an executive, and would often say “solve a problem for someone on the other side of the desk and you’ll have a customer – and a friend – for life.”

Bob was an avid traveler. He visited all seven continents and over one hundred countries; however, he was also content to stay home with a bowl of popcorn and a glass of chocolate milk while watching a MASH episode, Bugs Bunny cartoon or Colts game. From a young age, Bob was known as a collector -- of miniature toy soldiers, baseball autographs, Native American art, and military insignias. He was best known, however, for his quick wit, warm smile and listening ear.

Through the years, Bob served extensively in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in several leadership positions, including Bishop, Stake and Mission Presidencies. For decades he was a devoted youth leader who worked with hundreds of young men and women in the New York City area.

After Kay’s untimely death at the age of 68, Bob reunited with Nan Tobin MacLean, whom he had known since grade school in Bronxville, and whose husband had also passed away. Bob and Nan married in October 2006 and spent 20 glorious years together living primarily in Carmel, Indiana. They enjoyed travel, college football, IU basketball, cultural events at the Palladium, dining in local restaurants, and sharing Bronxville experiences.

Bob is survived by his wife Nan, her children Kim (Mike) Ramey and Marge (Steve) Haigh, and Bob and Kay’s children Rob (Nora), David (Cecilia), Jon (Jen), Nancy, and Elizabeth (Eric) Mostoller, twenty-six grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren, and his older brother, Dr. William B. Webber (Elaine). Bob was preceded in death by his parents, and Kay.

A private family service will be held at Flanner Buchanan in Carmel, Indiana on February 8, 2025, and a celebration of Bob’s life will be held on Saturday, February 22 at 11 AM at Larkin Sunset Gardens in Sandy, UT. Interment will be at the Spanish Fork Cemetery on February 22 at 2 PM (Mountain time).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Brockbank Education Fund. Please visit www.befcharity.org.
