Robert “Rob” Bruce Thorne, 83, passed away December 26th, 2024. He was born in South Lyon, Michigan to parents William and Charlotte Thorne.
Rob grew up in Michigan and graduated from South Lyon High School. He served in the 5th Army Band and played trombone. He continued his education at South Dakota State University, earning a degree in electrical engineering.
Rob met Gloria in June of 1972. On November 18th, 1972, in Loves Park, Illinois Rob married the love of his life, Gloria Groff. They shared 52 wonderful years together.
Rob worked as a technical write for many years before retiring – a career at which he excelled and enjoyed.
Rob was a kind and generous man. He enjoyed attending church and singing in the choir at The Church of the Savior and West Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville. Wednesday mornings he could be found with the Brunch Bunch and old friends. He was a fan of gadgets, puzzles, puns and other word games. He loved his family, reading, sudoku, and apple fritters.
He is survived by his loving wife, Gloria Thorne; his son Adam (spouse Mel) Thorne and his daughter Erin (spouse Scott) Spencer; grandchildren Corbin and Miriam; Charlotte, Ray, and Sebastian. Rob is preceded in death by his parents, brother, sisters-in-law, and brother-in-law.
Rob’s funeral and celebration of life will be Saturday, January 4th, 2025 at 12p at the West Street United Methodist Church in Shelbyville, 629 S. West St, Shelbyville, Indiana 46176
